Maydays! Maydays! At the Raceways!
One of our favorite weekends of the year is the first Saturday in May when the race is on! The horse races that is. Starting with the Kentucky Derby held on the first Saturday in May, then we have the Preakness, then the Belmont Stakes. Here are a few ideas when visiting those cities.
- Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky - Party time begins the night before the race at the Barnstable Brown Kentucky Derby Eve Gala. Party away (and celebrity watch) while helping raise money for Kentucky University's Barnstable Brown Diabetes and Obesity Research Center at this event “hailed by Conde Nast as one of the ’10 best parties in the world.’” Ready to “dance the night away” girlfriends?
- Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland - Wine in the Woods takes place Preakness weekend. It is an outdoor wine festival starts on Preakness Saturday and runs through Sunday. So, when the race has finished, you can spend your Saturday evening and Sunday sampling wine. Maybe extend your stay until Monday so you can spend Sunday sampling to your hearts content?
- Belmont Stakes at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York - Why not splurge on a limo to take a quick girlfriends trip into New York City? A short 14 miles from the raceway, NYC is filled with fun for everyone in your crew. During the day there is always the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty, etc. Then there’s the never-ending night life! Restaurants with every cuisine imaginable; dancing; a Broadway show; the options are endless. Staying at a hotel? The recommendations there can’t be beat.
