Blend an Awesome Alabama Bushwacker

After high school, my daughter deferred to the University of Alabama for a year while she took some time off to check out modeling. Kinda wish she had traveled south just so I could try this beauty! This cocktail—a staple in Alabama—is essentially a chocolate, piña colada milkshake, and yes, it’s as delicious as it sounds. Just like a bushwacker who likes to travel off the designated path, this boozy, chocolate treat is ideal if you and your girlfriends are looking to indulge in something a little different. Yes, it’s insanely popular on the Gulf shore, but I can confirm, it’s an  amazing cocktail wherever you and your girls are!

Ingredients for one cocktail. Multiply by degree of thirst and divide by number of girlfriends!

2 ounces dark rum

1 ounces dark crème de cacao

2 ounces cream of coconut

2 ounces milk

Nutmeg, whipped cream, or cherry (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Blend ingredients with ice—start with 1/2 cup and add from there—until the mix reaches milkshake consistency.

Step 2

Pour into a hurricane-style glass, then garnish with grated nutmeg, whipped cream, or a maraschino cherry.
