Eye-opening Insomnia Cookies... Are They as Good as Mine? I’m not sure who invented Insomnia Cookies (ever hear of ‘em?), but not only do I wish i...
  • You Set Down the Markers for Your Life

Mostly when someone talks down to you, they are hiding their own inadequacies. Turning externally and talking badly to someone else, is a very common defense mechanism. So the first rule of thumb for an inspired life is to never let anyone else’s words take control over you. You set down the markers for your life. You decide what you are okay with and what you are not okay with. If someone doesn’t have something encouraging or positive to say to you, the question that begs is if they should be in your life in the first place? It’s great to bounce ideas off with people & seek advice but filtering out what doesn’t serve us, is one of the best gifts you can give yourself.
  • The Uncharted Path I Had to Map on My Own

In my previous blog, Eating at Home is Almost Always the Healthiest Choice, I wrote about my junior college “career”. Over three years, I attended three different schools in order to earn a degree. Why three years instead of the typical two? Why three schools when it could’ve been one? I’d say it was the competing parental influences of Edna and Eddie.
  • A Trip to the Wonderful Wisconsin Dells

Every summer for the last 25 years, Pete, the kids and I have gone to the Wisconsin Dells to meet up with some of his former Gopher football teammates and their families for a mini-reunion. I know. You’re probably thinking, if you are familiar with Wisconsin, “This blog is about girls weekend--why would I want to go to the Dells? That’s for families and their kids!” You’re partly right. But, take it from me, the Dells knows how to cater to adults, too.
  • Channel Your Energy Toward Your Future

Our life today is a net result of the decisions we have taken so far. We cannot turn the clock back and change our past. Emotional baggage and memories that don’t serve us in any way, continue to linger in our lives and have an impact on the decisions we make even today. The only way to break away from that is to acknowledge them and then turn our focus on what the future can become. There are innumerable inspiring stories around us, where people took chances & leaps of faith in the hope for a better future & succeeded. Channelling all of our energy and focusing on what the future can bring our way is the only genuine force with the potential to change our life. Are you willing to give it a hard go?
  • Let's Bring on the Beer Cheese Curds!

If you’ve been to Wisconsin, you’ve seen cheese curds on the menu of practically any restaurant. Gourmet or greasy, cheese curds are staple all over the state—and for good reason. They are amazing! True, they’re definitely not the healthiest choice, but I think we all need a little break from perfectly clean eating now and again, don’t you?
  • Never Let Anyone Stand In Your Way

All great achievers that we know of and the ones that we may not know of have gone all out to create a life they love. My guess is that their path was not laid out with a soft carpet waiting for them. Obstacles and roadblocks are part of life. None of us have a blueprint for this thing called life. But some people plough through regardless of the naysayers and obstacles. That’s what differentiates achievers from the rest.
  • Friends, Family and Our Growing Tradition

This weekend marks our 26th annual Wisconsin Dells trip. The COVID-19 pandemic has sadly taken away our tradition this year.

About 25 years ago, my family and three other families started an annual trip to the Wisconsin Dells. This group was made up of guys who played football with my husband at the University of Minnesota, their wives and kids. If you’ve never heard of the Wisconsin Dells, just think of the Vegas of waterparks. To me, it’s always been a crack up to go there. “An entire town of waterparks?” That’s crazy!” Or so I thought. As the years progressed, I learned that this crazy town is more than just water activities. It has way more to offer than I imagined. Golf. Casinos. Shopping. Spas. Restaurants and more.
